I’ve been reading Apartment Therapy articles for years and always felt inspired by before and afters.
This spring I decided to take action and transform our entryway to make it more welcoming and cozy.
Welcome Home
Even though we rarely use our front door ourselves we welcome all of our guests there and the entryway is the first room they see when they get here.
I wanted it to be a more elevated and cohesive space so One Room Challenge of Sping 2024 was a perfect event to join and start working on my project.
Design inspiration
I’ve been following quite a few DIY creators and had an idea of what I wanted to create.
I usually stare at the walls and paint a picture in my mind of what it will look like once I’m done. This time around I wanted to be more prepared and created a mood board using Canva.
Project Check List
After putting together a visual mood board I hopped on my phone to create a quick project to-do list.
I simply used the Notes app on my iPhone, so I always have a list with me and can check things off once I’m done.
Entryway To-do List
- Install new ceiling light
- Paint front door
- Frame out a doorway
- Install new doorknob
- Board and batten wall
- Install new peel-and-stick wallpaper
- Build a storage cabinet with a bench – IKEA Kallax hack
- Fix tile grout lines
- Decorate
Small Budget Big Transformation
As you can see I have quite a big list of projects I want to accomplish during the One Room Challenge.
I like creating warm and inviting spaces, but I also like to keep things budget-friendly.
That’s why you’ll see me using paint to transform our front door instead of putting a new one in.
I’ll be upcycling an IKEA cubby into a storage cabinet and a bench instead of buying something new.
I like working with what I already have on hand and thrifting, this way I can still get big results but for a fraction of the cost.
I’ll be keeping an existing wall paint color White City by Behr since the entryway leads directly into our living room and repainting such a big space is not in the picture at the moment.
I’m very excited about transforming this small but very important part of our home and taking you along with me as I post weekly updates.
Be sure to check out the One Room Challenge blog to see other creative transformations!
I hope the challenge inspires you and you’ll be ready to transform your space one room at a time!
Hugs,
Hanna
