Paint your heart away: ORC Week 4

We are halfway there!

Week 4 of the One Room Challenge was a blast!

It’s all about painting for this entryway makeover.

Transform your space using paint

I believe paint has the superpower to transform any space in a matter of hours!

Board and batten before

My entryway was a bit dull and painting the board and batten wall in a fresh soft white has brought more light to the space.

Alabaster white paint

I used Sherwin Williams Emerald paint in a color Alabaster.

Go bold with accents

While white can refresh the room, it can feel boring sometimes.

I like to break it up with bold accents.

I chose to paint my front door black with the color of the year by Behr Cracked Pepper.

I love the contrast it created and the new refreshed look.

Painting Basics

It’s all in the prep work and the right tools for the job!

  1. I love to prep any surface for painting by giving it a good clean.
  2. Then I move on to fixing imperfections with wood filler or spackling.
  3. Once it’s dry, I give it a quick sand with a fine-grit sandpaper.
  4. Wiping sand dust off using a tack cloth is a must for proper paint adhesion.

Now that the prep is all done, it’s time to move on to painting!

After countless projects and spending hours with a brush in my hand, I can firmly attest that this is the best paintbrush ever!

I’m talking about the Wooster paintbrush.

It’s amazing for cutting in and detailed work. I usually buy a new one for every single project, but they can be easily reused after a proper cleanup(soapy water has worked well for me).

Smooth finish without the paint sprayer

Yes, the paint sprayer gives your project a wonderful finish, but sometimes it’s hard to use.

Using a paintbrush and a high-density foam roller combo is a great alternative.

This method saves you time and money by skipping the taping of the room which is needed when using a paint sprayer.

I simply smoothed out any brush streaks by going over them with my roller right after and the final result speaks for itself.

Magic of Paint

I know that seeing big transformations on the World Wide Web can be intimidating.

But you don’t have to undertake a big project at the beginning of your DIY journey.

Start small.

Paint an accent wall or refresh your powder room.

That’s what I did before moving on to a bigger project like a kitchen cabinet makeover.

Paint is a powerful way to add warmth and character to any space!

I hope you got inspired by this project and are ready to tackle your next DIY makeover!
