Quick Bathroom Update: Let there be the light

Light Fixture: Small but Mighty

I love quick and budget-friendly updates. I mean who doesn’t?

Everyone knows that lighting is very important for any room. But especially for a small bathroom.

I wanted to change a light fixture in our powder room for a while. I even had one on hand, but it just didn’t feel right.

Black is a timeless choice

I think my style has changed over the past year after being more exposed to DIY and design content, so instead of trying to convince myself to like the light fixture I had on hand, I waited patiently for the right one to catch my eye.

One day it all fell into place when I saw this black bathroom light fixture at the local auction.

I loved its simple design and clean look, so I placed a bid on it.

I was a lucky winner and picked it up a few days later.

How to Install a Bathroom Light

Once I got back home I immediately got to work.

Changing the light fixture is relatively easy, you just need to follow a few steps.

  • Shut off the power

Anytime you do any electrical work, you start by shutting off the power.

  • Remove the existing light fixture

Start by removing the light bulbs and glass lampshades.

Unscrew the fixture cover and disconnect the wires.

  • Patch holes and paint

If your new fixture isn’t big enough or has a different base shape you might need to patch some holes with a spackle and paint your wall first.

  • Install mounting plate

This base plate holds the fixture in place and it usually comes with a fixture.
Use a level to make sure everything is straight.

  • Connect the wires

Most of the time there are 3 colored wires: black, white, and copper(green).

Simply connect coordinating colors to each other.
DO NOT MIX colors, or it can cause serious problems.
Black to black, white to white, and copper to copper(or green).

  • Secure the light fixture

Once the wires are attached gently push them into the electrical box and secure the light fixture according to the instructions.

  • Add light bulbs

    Add lightbulbs of your choice.

I went with dimmable LED light bulbs, and absolutely love them!

  • Turn the power back on

Admire your updated bathroom

Updating a light fixture is an easy and quick way to add more character to your bathroom.

Sometimes very subtle changes can have a big impact.

I was able to give my powder room a more modern look in a matter of hours.

I love this simple yet sophisticated light fixture and how it changed the room.

The only downside is now I want to update the whole room, but it’s a task for another day!

I hope it inspires you and you’ll be ready to transform your space with this simple yet impactful upgrade.

Hugs,

Hanna
